Who Are We?
by Ashlea Barker

Why does it matter what we look like?
Why does it matter how we dress?
Who cares if we not get straight A's?
Who are we trying to impress?

Why do people always criticize?
Why do they even care?
Why do they point and whisper?
Why do they laugh and stare?

Why do they make fun of us?
Why do they make us cry?
What do they want us to be like?
Why can't they only tell us so we can really try?

What do they really want from us?
Have we done something wrong?
Is it the way we dress or the way we look?
Or do we just wear our hair to long?

Why can't we be ourselves?
What's wrong with the way we are?
Why don't they stop teasing us now?
Haven't they taken it too far?

Do people need to stop the way they treat each other?
Can they let people be who they want to be?
Who can make it better?
We can make a difference, together, you and me.
